“What a privilege to bring to the screen this amazing world premiere performance for the Lexington Philharmonic.” – MICHAEL BREEDING

BACKGROUND: A highlight of the 2024 season, LexPhil presented the world premiere of Composer-in-Residence Shawn E. Okpebholo’s Two Black Churches, a LexPhil co-commissioned arrangement for full orchestra featuring acclaimed baritone Will Liverman. This poignant work, originally scored for piano and baritone and commissioned by Will Liverman, reflects on the racist attacks on the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, and the Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015.

This is the A Look At demo on Atlanta created by Michael Breeding MEDIA that eventually landed a 14-million-dollar contract with British Airways. In time, other airlines wanted a similar program to broadcast while in the air on other cities. The concept was to showcase a city that could be shown while an airplane was landing to feature adventures and restaurants. Before the age of iPhones and the full development of the Internet, this was an innovative idea. For this demo, we used mostly stock footage.

“Initially, our aim was to share the journey of a dedicated group of nurse-midwives who united to develop and implement a groundbreaking initiative aimed at significantly increasing the number of nurse-midwives needed to provide care for women across the nation. However, our narrative quickly grew to encompass the pressing issue of maternal mortality in the United States, exploring the reasons behind it and proposing solutions, including the need to expand the nurse-midwifery workforce. Michael Breeding played a pivotal role in shaping our story. His remarkable talent, patience, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to traveling to collect these narratives culminated in a powerful production that aims to inform the nation about the current landscape of maternity care in the United States. – DR. SUSAN STONE, DNSc, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, PRESIDENT EMERITA, DISTINGUISHED CHAIR OF MIDWIFERY & NURSING, FRONTIER NURSING UNIVERSITY

DOCUMENTARY: As seen on KET in late 2024 or early 2025 and throughout the PBS system of affiliate stations (342 PBS affiliates), this is the story of how a group of nurse-wives from the 1980s, 90s, 2000s, and beyond were determined to address the maternal health crisis in the United States. Their work and determination eventually culminated into the online only Frontier Nursing University (FNU). Narrated by the brilliant Carrington MacDuffie.

“Michael Breeding helped me create a perfect tribute to my Mom and I could not be happier with the result. His vast experience, his creativity and raw talent resulted in a tribute that I know my Mom would have been so proud of. We have watched it often over the last couple of years since her memorial, and it helps us remember her and celebrate her each time we see it. We are so glad we have it. Moreover, the process of working with Michael was so smooth, and stressless, and fun, and he always listened and was willing to go any direction we wanted, while at the same time giving us very precise direction when we asked for it. He is a collaborator, and, in my opinion, is quite brilliant at what he does.” – LOWELL PRESS

We could not have been more pleased with the fantastic work he delivered. He demonstrated creativity, impeccable command of the camera and editing, direction, and most of all he listened. “I hired Michael to do a documentary project for Keeneland, the largest thoroughbred auction company in the world, and also a beautiful National Historic Landmark property. As well known as it is globally for its auction sales, Keeneland is perhaps better known in the United States for its thoroughbred race meets in April and October. Michael did an amazing job gaining access to places, people, and historic artifacts that no one had ever been able to access before. He was thrown all sorts of curve balls and took them in stride. Everyone that encountered him was impressed by his diplomacy, artistic vision, and skill set. The result was a documentary that far exceeded everyone’s expectations. It remains a classic that is as relevant now as it was at the Kentucky Theatre Premiere in 2000. The music, the visuals, the storytelling was (and still is) masterful. The Keeneland documentary was so excellent that racing channels around the world picked it up and aired it so often that visitors from foreign countries were able to quote lines from the film when they visited us at Keeneland. Michael is the consummate professional who will produce amazing work at a fair price. He will move mountains to make every deadline. How often does one get to work on a project of this magnitude and have a joyous outcome and a splendid experience in the process?  To answer my own question: Never, until we worked with Michael Breeding on this documentary project.” – FRAN TAYOR, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, KEENELAND FOUNDATION
